Jr. High

The Junior High years at St. Helen Catholic School are a time of intellectual challenge, personal growth, and deeper faith formation. Serving students in 6th through 8th grade, our program prepares young men and women to think critically, lead confidently, and live their faith with maturity.

As students transition into adolescence, they are guided toward greater independence, responsibility, and academic rigor in a structured, faith-centered environment.

Faith & Formation

Junior High students are called to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and to live it more intentionally. Through religion coursework, participation in Mass, sacramental life, and service opportunities, students are challenged to move from childhood faith to personal conviction.

They learn:

  • To articulate and defend their beliefs

  • To lead with integrity

  • To serve others with humility

  • To make decisions grounded in Christian virtue

Faith formation at this level emphasizes ownership, accountability, and discipleship.

Academic Rigor & Readiness

Junior High students engage in a structured academic program that prepares them for the expectations of Catholic and college-preparatory high schools.

Our curriculum includes:

  • Advanced coursework opportunities in Literature, Math, Science, and Social Studies

  • STREAM integration, including Project Lead The Way units

  • Research, analytical writing, and presentation skills

  • Increasing emphasis on independent study and organization

Students are expected to take greater ownership of their learning, manage deadlines, and develop strong study habits.

Leadership Development

Junior High students serve as role models within the school community. Opportunities for leadership may include:

  • Student Council

  • Campus ministry involvement

  • Service initiatives

  • Athletic and extracurricular leadership

These roles help students grow in confidence, responsibility, and public representation of the school.

Our graduates consistently transition to respected Catholic high schools throughout the Houston area. More importantly, they leave St. Helen prepared—not only academically, but spiritually and morally—to navigate the challenges of high school and beyond.
