Elementary

The Elementary years at St. Helen Catholic School are a time of strong academic formation, deepening faith, and growing independence. Serving students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, our program builds the intellectual, spiritual, and moral foundation that prepares students for success in Junior High and beyond.

During these years, students move from learning foundational skills to applying them with confidence and increasing responsibility.

Faith in Action

Faith remains central to every aspect of school life. Elementary students participate in:

  • Daily prayer

  • Religion instruction rooted in Catholic doctrine

  • Regular Mass and liturgical celebrations

  • Sacramental preparation (as appropriate)

  • Service and stewardship opportunities

Students learn not only what we believe as Catholics, but how to live those beliefs through character, integrity, and compassion.

Academic Excellence

Our Elementary curriculum emphasizes strong foundations in core academic areas while encouraging curiosity and critical thinking.

Students develop:

  • Advanced literacy skills, including comprehension and written expression

  • Mathematical fluency and conceptual understanding

  • Scientific inquiry and problem-solving

  • Historical understanding and civic awareness

  • Clear communication and collaboration skills

STREAM integration, including Project Lead The Way experiences, enhances learning and encourages innovation.

Instruction is structured, purposeful, and aligned with high expectations to ensure steady academic growth.

Developing Independence & Responsibility

The Elementary years are formative in building executive functioning skills and personal responsibility. Students are guided to:

  • Manage assignments and materials

  • Practice self-discipline

  • Strengthen study habits

  • Develop leadership within the classroom

Teachers provide support while gradually increasing expectations, helping students grow in maturity and accountability.

A Supportive & Structured Environment

St. Helen maintains a classroom culture that balances warmth with high standards. Clear expectations, consistent routines, and strong teacher guidance create an environment where students can thrive.

We believe that structure builds confidence, and confidence fuels achievement.

At St. Helen Catholic School, the Elementary years are a time of transformation. Students grow steadily in knowledge, character, and faith—continuing their journey in Wisdom, Age, and Grace as they prepare for the challenges and opportunities of Junior High.
