Pre-Kindergarten

At St. Helen Catholic School, our Pre-Kindergarten program provides a joyful and structured beginning to a child’s educational journey. Serving students in PK3 and PK4, we nurture curiosity, independence, and confidence within a Christ-centered environment.

These early years are foundational. Our goal is to create a safe, loving classroom where children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Faith from the Beginning

Even our youngest students begin forming their relationship with Christ. Through daily prayer, Scripture stories, songs, and participation in simple liturgical experiences, children learn:

  • That they are loved by God

  • How to pray

  • How to treat others with kindness and respect

  • What it means to make good choices

Faith formation at this age is relational, joyful, and rooted in routine.

Learning Through Guided Discovery

Our Pre-Kindergarten classrooms balance structured instruction with purposeful exploration. Students develop:

  • Early literacy and phonemic awareness

  • Foundational number sense

  • Fine and gross motor skills

  • Listening and communication skills

  • Classroom independence and responsibility

  • Social-emotional regulation

Instruction is developmentally appropriate while intentionally preparing students for Kindergarten readiness.

A Structured & Nurturing Environment

Young children thrive in environments that are predictable and supportive. Clear routines, high expectations, and gentle guidance help students build confidence while learning how to function independently in a classroom setting.

Our teachers foster both structure and warmth, ensuring that each child feels secure while growing in responsibility.

Readiness Requirements

  • PK3 students must be 3 years old before September 1

  • PK4 students must be 4 years old before September 1

  • All students must be fully potty trained prior to acceptance

Complete potty training includes the ability to:

  • Communicate the need to use the restroom

  • Manage clothing independently

  • Use the restroom without assistance

  • Clean independently

Because we do not have staff available to assist with potty training, this requirement is essential for enrollment.

At St. Helen Catholic School, Pre-Kindergarten is more than preparation for the next grade. It is the beginning of formation in Wisdom, Age, and Grace — laying the academic and spiritual foundation for years to come.
