Curriculum & Assessment

At St. Helen Catholic School, our curriculum is intentionally designed to form students in Wisdom, Age, and Grace. We combine strong academic standards with faith formation to ensure that students grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually from PK3 through 8th grade.

Our program is vertically aligned, meaning each grade level builds purposefully on the one before it. This structure ensures steady academic progress and prepares students for success in Catholic and college-preparatory high schools.

Assessment & Academic Growth

Assessment at St. Helen serves a clear purpose: to measure progress, guide instruction, and ensure student growth.

We use a combination of:

  • Classroom assessments

  • Unit tests and projects

  • Performance-based tasks

  • Writing samples

  • Standardized benchmark assessments

These tools allow teachers to monitor academic progress and provide targeted support when needed.

Our goal is not simply grade-level completion, but measurable growth year after year.

High Expectations with Support

We believe students thrive in environments with both structure and high expectations. Teachers provide consistent feedback, clear standards, and structured routines to help students develop strong study habits and accountability.

When students need additional support, intervention strategies are implemented to strengthen foundational skills and maintain academic momentum.

Preparing Students for the Future

By eighth grade, students at St. Helen demonstrate academic confidence, strong communication skills, disciplined study habits, and the ability to think critically and independently.

Our curriculum prepares students not only for high school success, but for lifelong learning grounded in faith and moral responsibility.

Academic Curriculum

Our curriculum provides rigorous instruction in core academic disciplines:

  • Religion

  • English Language Arts

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

  • STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)

  • Fine Arts and Physical Education

STREAM is integrated throughout the school, including Project Lead The Way experiences that promote critical thinking and hands-on problem solving.

Instruction is structured, teacher-guided, and standards-based. We emphasize mastery of foundational skills in the early years and increasingly complex application and analysis in the upper grades.
